For knee-high styles, match your calf to the chart first. Then check the listed shoe-size limit for foot fit.
- 1Top band — choose a size within your calf range.
- 2Leg — graduated support, firmest at the ankle, lighter toward the knee.
- 3Foot — stretch knit; check the listed shoe-size limit.

Measure in under a minute
Knee-high styles · Wide-Calf, Pastels and Open-Toe use the same three steps.

Find the widest part of your calf
Sit with your foot flat on the floor and feel for the fullest point of your calf muscle. That's where you measure.

Wrap a soft tape around it
Keep the tape level and resting on the skin — snug, not pulled tight.
Measure both legs
Calves are often slightly different. Write down both and use the larger number.

No measuring needed
Ankle socks come in two fits. M/L is our regular fit and suits most people; XL/2XL is the wide fit, with extra room around the foot and ankle for heavier swelling or if you simply prefer a roomier sock.

Feet and calves don't always agree
Two knee-high fit examples — check calf range and foot fit.
Small feet, fuller calves?
- 1Calf 21 in, shoe US W6 — the shoe size says M.
- 2But the calf is the number that counts.
- 3The calf chart points to 2XL. Check the foot fit too.
Size by your calf. Check both calf range and foot fit; shoe size alone does not determine a knee-high sock size.
Big feet, slim calves?
- 1Calf 13 in says M — but shoe US M9 is above the M foot limit.
- 2The calf and shoe measurements point to different fits.
- 3Ask us to confirm the fit before ordering.
Check both measurements. If your calf points to M but your shoe size exceeds US W9.5 · M7.5 · EU 40, contact us. Do not size up beyond your calf range.
Knee-high fit questions
Between two sizes?
Where two chart ranges overlap, choose the larger size.
My calves measure differently
Use the larger measurement. If the two legs need different sizes, contact us.
No measuring tape?
Wrap a piece of string once around the widest part of your calf, mark where it meets, then lay it flat along a ruler.
My number is outside the chart
Don't force it. Email us your measurement and we'll tell you honestly whether LeafSock will fit — and which style comes closest.
How the right fit should feel
- Even support across the covered area — snug, never painful
- Heel sits in the heel pocket; toes have room to move
- Top band lies flat without rolling or digging in
- Fabric lies smooth, without bunching or deep folds

How do I measure for compression socks?
For knee-high styles, measure both calves at the widest point with the tape level and snug. Use the larger measurement. Ankle styles use Regular or Wide fit.
What if I'm between sizes?
Where chart ranges overlap, choose the larger size. If you are outside the chart, contact us before ordering.
Do LeafSock socks fit wide calves?
Knee-high styles come in M–3XL. Check the calf range for your size.
Should I choose by shoe size?
For knee-high styles, start with calf circumference, then check the listed shoe-size limit. If the two do not match, contact us rather than sizing up beyond your calf range. Ankle styles use Regular (M/L) or Wide (XL/2XL) fit.
What if my calves are two different sizes?
Use the larger measurement. If your legs need different sizes, contact us.
How tight should compression socks feel?
Snug and supportive, not painful. Remove them if you notice pain, numbness, tingling or coldness, and seek professional advice before wearing them again.
What if I order the wrong size?
We'll send a new size free within 60 days, no return needed — one replacement per order.
I have small feet but fuller calves — which size?
Start with your calf measurement and check foot fit. If you are unsure, send us both measurements.
Size ranges are LeafSock's own for each style. This guide is about fit, not medical advice; if compression has been prescribed for you, follow the guidance you were given.
